CEU Film Program: Viewing and Discussion of Movie “Thanks for Sharing” on Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder, presented by Helen Friedman, Ph.D.

“Thanks for Sharing” is a comedy-drama that brings together three disparate characters who struggle with compulsive sexual behavior. The film stars Mark Ruffalo, Tim Robbins, Gwyneth Paltrow, Josh Gad, and Alecia Moore (the singer Pink). This movie is educational in its accurate depiction of sexual compulsivity.

Helen Friedman, Ph.D. will introduce the movie and then lead the discussion afterward. Compulsive sexual behavior disorder is now included as a diagnosis in the ICD-11. This program will illuminate this frequently misunderstood condition, its various forms, triggers, and paths to recovery.

Dr. Friedman is a clinical psychologist in private practice in St. Louis since 1981. Specialties include compulsive sexual behavior, sexual trauma, dissociative disorders, posttraumatic stress, and gender identity. She has presented on these topics at national and international scientific conferences and has made numerous appearances on television, radio, and in print (e.g., New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, USA Today, Jerusalem Post, Huffington Post, Psychology Today, Cosmopolitan). Dr. Friedman is the president of the St. Louis Psychological Association; an associate clinical professor in the Department of Community and Family Medicine, St. Louis University School of Medicine; and on the Advisory Board of the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH, formerly the National Council on Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity). She is a recipient of the SASH Merit Award, presented to her by Patrick Carnes, Ph.D., a pioneer in the field.
